What inspires you to serve on the board of Bloomington Cooperative Services?

I inspire to serve on the board to become a better leader, expand my network, give back to the community, and make a difference. This will give me the opportunity to share my knowledge while also learning from farmers, small business owners, along with government officials.

What experience or involvement have you had with Bloomingfoods and/or other cooperatives?

Being new to the area, I joined Bloomingfoods as a member in April 2024. While on travel, I search out other cooperatives to not only support local small businesses, but also to keep business in the area. Most recently, I was in Astoria, Oregon and Boise, Idaho at their Co-op’s.

What has been your experience working cooperatively with small groups of people?

I was a volunteer with the USO for over ten years, and also with the VFW Auxiliary - where I’ve held previous board positions such as their Legislative Chair and Social Media Chair. On the side, I have been my Sorority Alumnae Scholarship Co-Chair for over five years.

Please share any professional, volunteer, or life experience you have had that will provide insight when serving on the BCS Board of Directors. Include knowledge, skills, formal training, and education that will contribute to the mission of our co-op.

My career includes working for over ten years in the Federal Government, where part of my duties included drafting agriculture policies for a United States Senator. These policies were instrumental in supporting farmers within the perspective area. This experience has taught me the importance of sustainability and economic impact on our environment.

How do your values and lifestyle align with the values and mission of the co-op?

My values and lifestyle align with the values and mission of the Co-op, as I value open communication, honesty, and transparency.

Given the stated Ends of BCS, what do you see as the primary role of BCS in the community?

I see the primary role of BCS in the community as continuing to market and drive a sustainable community through their mission and policies.

What are opportunities and challenges you see for BCS in the future expression of these Ends?

While I have yet to witness or experience any opportunities and challenges for BCS as I’m new to the Co-op, in general educating the community on buying local and raising awareness on sustainability would be beneficial to any community.

Please share any other brief statement that you feel is important regarding your potential service as a member of our board.

Professionally, I am extremely driven and dedicated individual that thrives on working in a fast-paced environment. My drive is eclipsed by my desire to serve others. Whenever the opportunity presents, I actively look for ways to give back to the community – which is why I am applying for a board position.
